KUCHING, Oct 9: Miri-born national bowler Gillian Lim solidified her status as one of Malaysia’s top players by winning her second major title of the year, emerging victorious at the 46th National Championship held at Sunway Megalanes, Petaling Jaya, yesterday (Oct 8).

According to a TVS news report, Lim, who previously won the Malaysian International Open earlier this year, edged Kuala Lumpur’s Nur Syazwani Sahar in a gripping final match, finishing with a narrow 164-158 victory.

Expressing her pride in the achievement, Lim noted that this win placed her among the few Malaysian bowlers to have captured both the National Champion and Malaysian International Open titles in the same year.

“It wasn’t easy to perform well yesterday due to the challenging oil pattern on the lanes. However, I stayed focused and made sure I executed my best shots,” she shared.

In the initial step ladder round, Nur Syazwani had to overcome Sharon Koh to face Lim in the final.

The men’s category, meanwhile, saw Kuala Lumpur dominating the field, with three of its representatives advancing to the step ladder.

The competition saw a surprising twist when Muhammad Hazim Ali Hanifah defeated five-time Asian Championship gold medalist Rafiq Ismail with an impressive score of 267-241 to claim the men’s title.

Sarawak’s Chong Jun Fo finished in fifth place, while Musayyar Khalid concluded his campaign in 10th position. — DayakDaily
