KUCHING, Oct 7: A new chapter has opened in Malaysia’s aviation landscape as CENTEXS, CENTEXS Commercial and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) forged a strategic collaboration to develop the flying car industry in Sarawak, paving the way for Malaysia to expand its potential in the fast-emerging low-altitude economy.
In a press statement, CAAM deputy chief executive officer (Regulatory) Captain Mohd Radzi Mohamad Alias @ Abd Majid said the partnership signifies a crucial step in aligning both institutions’ expertise to advance modern aviation technologies while catalysing national economic growth.
“Close collaboration between CENTEXS and CAAM is not only vital in propelling the flying car industry forward, but also serves as a catalyst for Malaysia’s broader aviation technology development,” he said after receiving a working visit from CENTEXS to CAAM headquarters in Putrajaya on Monday (Oct 6).
He noted that the rapid growth of the low-altitude economy worldwide, encompassing technologies such as drones, urban air mobility, and flying cars, signals an urgent need for Malaysia to position itself at the forefront of this transformation.
“With the support of emerging sub-technologies and education initiatives currently being developed, we are confident that Malaysia can move beyond reliance on foreign innovations and begin developing its own capabilities to realise the dream of a Malaysian-made flying car,” he added.
The visit, led by CENTEXS chief executive officer Dato Syeed Mohd Hussien Wan Abdul Rahman, marked the first face-to-face engagement between CENTEXS and CAAM, symbolising a milestone in the journey to strengthen Malaysia’s foothold in regional aviation technology.
Mohd Hussien highlighted that the discussion centred on upskilling programmes within the aerospace sector, including Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO), Cabin Crew, and Aerospace Technology training.
These efforts, he said, are crucial to building a pool of skilled talent capable of supporting future air mobility ecosystems.
“Our discussion was not just eye to eye, but heart to heart; sharing a common vision and responsibility to advance this industry. The low-altitude economy is not only for Sarawak but for Malaysia,” he said.
He also revealed that several strategic milestones are being mapped out, covering local talent development, joint research, infrastructure support, and pilot operations for low-altitude mobility. These initiatives aim to position Malaysia as a regional leader in smart air mobility and next-generation aviation technologies.
The collaboration between CENTEXS, CENTEXS Commercial, and CAAM is expected to be a key driver in accelerating Malaysia’s aviation technology transformation, enhancing the country’s competitiveness within the Asia-Pacific region while creating new economic opportunities through innovation and sustainable air mobility.
Concluding the visit, Mohd Hussien reaffirmed that the future of the flying car industry hinges on collaboration across all sectors, expressing confidence that Malaysia can build a modern, safe, and inclusive aviation ecosystem for the next era of mobility. — DayakDaily
