KUCHING, May 31: Social harmony and cohesion in Sarawak are strengthened by close relationships among the people, says Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

“Every festival is celebrated together, regardless of race, and this adds to the closeness of people’s relationships, which is how our society can live in harmony.

He said this when emphasising on the importance of maintaining unity in Sarawak earlier tonight during the “Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri 1443H Persatuan Anak Jati Lawas 2022” event held at Imperial Hotel here.

“I am thankful that we are able to celebrate this event together tonight after two years of staying at home due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” he added.

He thanked Persatuan Anak Jati Lawas for organising the event.

Meanwhile, Awang Tengah said it is essential for a society to possess knowledge and skills in order to be able to contribute to development.

He also highlighted the government is in the process of acquiring land for the new Lawas airport, which he hopes will be completed as soon as possible. — DayakDaily
