KOTA SAMARAHAN, July 20: A masked intruder was caught on CCTV sneaking into a family home at Lorong 22M1A, Desa Ilmu in the early hours of yesterday (July 19), leaving behind a trail of spilled cooking oil but taking nothing.

The unusual break-in, which was first shared by the victim on Facebook and later reported to Kota Samarahan police, showed a man climbing over the back gate and entering the double-storey terrace house while the occupants were asleep.

Kota Samarahan district police chief Damataries Lautin confirmed that the homeowner, a 50-year-old housewife, lodged the report after discovering the spill on the upper floor and reviewing the CCTV footage, which showed the intruder entering the house at around 2.19am and exiting about 20 minutes later through the same back door.

“Despite the intrusion, no valuables or personal items were found missing. However, the suspect did rummage through the wardrobe in the master bedroom,” the police report stated.

The suspect, who remains unidentified, was described as wearing a grey cap, face mask, long-sleeved grey shirt and black shorts.

The family—the victim, her husband and their two children—were fast asleep upstairs during the incident.

Investigators from the D6 Crime Scene Unit attempted fingerprint dusting at the scene but failed to recover usable prints due to oil contamination and rough surface textures.

The blurry CCTV footage has since been sent to the D6 division at Sarawak Police Headquarters for further analysis using the FAME (Facial Analysis Matching Engine) system in hopes of identifying the suspect.

Police have classified the case under Section 448 of the Penal Code for house trespass.

This is the first such incident reported at the residence, and investigations are ongoing.

This case follows a preceding DayakDaily report that the break-in, which was widely circulated on social media, was believed to be under a separate investigation from two earlier housebreaking cases reported in Merlin Garden and Taman Samarindah Baru. — DayakDaily
