Case of Indonesian nationals in possession of IS-related items to be heard Jan 9

MIRI, Dec 3: The Miri Sessions Court today has fixed January 9, 2020 for further mention of the case involving three Indonesian nationals on suspicion of possessing items related to the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group.

Judge Steve Ritikos fixed the date for further mention this morning.


All three accused – two men and a woman – arrived at the Miri Session complex this morning at around 9am escorted by anti-terror police.

The accused, Ardiana Rashid, 26, her husband, Sandi Sang Putra, 23, and Abdan Syakur, 32, were detained in three separate locations on September 14 this year for possessing IS-related materials in their respective handphones.

They were charged under Section 130JB (1)(a) of the Penal Code which carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ jail or fine and possible forfeiture of the items.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Aftal Mariz prosecuted, while the three suspects were unrepresented. —DayakDaily
