Case involving death of man in hunting trip takes a new twist

KANOWIT, Feb 26: The case of a 30-year-old man who died during a hunting trip took another turn when one of his three friends allegedly admitted killing him by mistake.

The deceased, Patrick Nyanau, 30, from Rumah Manggie had about 8pm on  Feb 20 went with three friends to the forest in Machan for hunting.

The friends however rushed him to Kanowit Hospital for injury in his chest. They alleged that he had accidentally shot himself.

However following another investigation, one of his friends, aged 31, admitted to the police to have shot the deceased as he thought he was an animal moving about in the bushes.

Three suspects aged 31, 21, and 19 were subsequently arrested.

Police seized from the suspects a shotgun, a spent cartridge and a gun license.

Kanowit district police chief DSP Tega Bilong said the case is being investigated under Section 34A of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence. — DayakDaily
