Carrot caper thwarted after smugglers nabbed at Indonesian border

KUCHING, April 19: Two local men were arrested today for attempting to smuggle 53 boxes of carrots with an estimated worth of RM3,180 into Indonesia via an illegal passageway.

According to TV Sarawak (TVS), the Army Eastern Field Command Headquarters reported that a team of Malaysian Army (TDM) personnel were patrolling the Empaling oil palm plantation by Kampung Stass, Bau when they intercepted a pickup truck at 2.50am that was transporting concealed cargo.

“All the looted items as well as the two arrested men were handed over to the Bau police station for further action,” said the statement from the East Medan Government Headquarters.

The total value of the seized goods, including the pickup truck is estimated at RM101,180.

“The TDM will continue to be committed in conducting strict border control at the Malaysian-Indonesian border to ensure that the safety of the country continues to be protected from illegal immigrants (PATI), smuggling activities, or cross-border crimes,” the statement read. — DayakDaily
