Caretaker couple of missing boy given 6 months in jail for theft, drug related charges

KUCHING, March 31: The Magistrate’s Court here has sentenced the caretaker of four-year-old missing child Eric Chang to a jail term of six months and a fine of RM2,000 to a charge of theft, while her husband was given six months in jail to a charge of administering drugs.

The caretaker, Wendy Chai Cue Zhen, 36, was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code for stealing a refrigerator and a washing machine belonging to a private company at City Square Court, at about 11am on Dec 6, 2019.


She pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to an imprisonment term of six months and a fine of RM2,000 or in default two months’ imprisonment.

Wendy’s husband, Ling Kok Liang, 51, was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after he was found guilty of administering methamphetamine and amphetamine at the Sarawak police contingent Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, at about 2am on Dec 16, 2014.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to an imprisonment term of six months and to undergo supervision under the police for two years. — DayakDaily
