KUCHING, Jan 24: A woman was killed while two others were injured in a self-inflicted road accident involving a Proton Saga along Batu 6 here this afternoon.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said it received an emergency call at about 3.32pm regarding the accident opposite Everwin Batu 6. A fire engine from the Kota Sentosa Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene within four minutes.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the vehicle had skidded and crashed into a road divider, leaving three occupants affected. Two victims had managed to exit the car on their own, while another victim was found unconscious and trapped on the front passenger side.
Firefighters carried out rescue operations using a stretcher to extricate the unconscious victim. The victim, an elderly woman aged 71, who was seated at the front passenger’s side of the car, was later pronounced dead at the scene by Ministry of Health personnel.
The driver, a 71-year-old man, sustained minor injuries, while a 35-year-old woman, who was seated in the rear, suffered head injuries. Both injured victims were transported to hospital by ambulance for further treatment.
After the deceased was handed over to the police and the accident area was cleared, the operation was brought under control at about 5.23pm, and firefighters returned to the station. – DayakDaily
