KUCHING, July 22: Four dead bodies believed to be the missing crew members of capsized cargo ship near Pulau Burung in Sebuyau last Thursday (July 20), were found floating yesterday.
Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sarawak director First Admiral Zin Azman Md Yunus said they had received information at 1.15pm from local fishermen regarding the discovery of three bodies floating some 15 nautical miles northeast from Pulau Burung.
Upon receiving the information, the MMEA Sarawak through Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) Kuching deployed KM Kota Kinabalu (maritime ship) and other assets to the location.
“Around 2.30pm, the three bodies were retrieved by the rescue team and brought to the Sebuyau public jetty.
“Meanwhile, around 5.25pm, KM Kota Kinabalu found another unidentified body during the search and rescue (SAR) operation and the body was brought to Tun Abang Salahuddin Maritime Complex Jetty (KOMTAS),” he said in a statement.
The identities of all four bodies has yet to be confirmed.
On July 20, eight crew members were reported missing after their cargo ship, MV Tung Sung, capsized and sunk in the waters of Pulau Burung in Sebuyau.
The missing were reported as three Malaysians comprising Chieng Siew Ngiek, 36; Wong Hua Wu, 47; and Stimba Chuit, 52; four Burmese (Myanmar) comprising Hla Win Tun, 24; That Min July, 23; Yee Lin Htet, 21; and Tun Lin Oo, 20; and one Indonesian – Lido Ali Purwanto, 40.
There was a ninth crew member originally reported as missing but later it was ascertained he did not board the ship.
The SAR operation for the remaining missing crew members is ongoing. — DayakDaily
