KUCHING, March 16: Cancer survivors, caregivers and volunteers came together for a meaningful iftar gathering organised by the Society for Cancer Advocacy and Awareness Kuching (SCAN), strengthening bonds within the support community during the holy month of Ramadan.
Held on March 14 at the Borneo Cultures Museum Restaurant, the event brought together SCAN members from diverse backgrounds to break fast with their Muslim members while sharing stories of resilience, hope and mutual support.
The gathering was also attended by SCAN advisor Dayang Mariani Abang Zain.
Throughout the evening, cancer survivors reflected on their journeys and the challenges they had overcome, while caregivers were recognised for their unwavering support and volunteers for their continued dedication to helping those affected by cancer.
SCAN president Chris Cheng said the gathering highlighted the strength of the community built around shared experiences.
“SCAN’s iftar event is more than just a gathering; it is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.
“In coming together to break fast and share our experiences, we draw strength from one another and reaffirm our commitment to fighting cancer with courage and dignity,” he said.
Members were also treated to a spread of traditional dishes, creating a warm and uplifting atmosphere as they strengthened friendships and support networks within the community.
According to SCAN, such gatherings play an important role in fostering a sense of belonging among members while reinforcing the organisation’s mission of advocacy, awareness and peer support for those affected by cancer. — DayakDaily
