KUCHING, May 12: Sarawak Eco Warriors and Plants for Plastic are calling for youths to take part in Sarawak Youth Green Leaders Workshop 2023 on May 20 and 21.

According to a media release issued today, the workshop is open to 20 youths aged between 18 and 25, and are based in Sarawak.

The workshop addresses knowledge and capacity gaps in biodiversity governance, and empowers youth to make more meaningful contributions in environmental sustainability.

Youth who are keen on joining the workshop may submit their applications by May 16 at www.bit.ly/swakgreenleaders.

The program is supported by local and international organisations namely Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), Swinburne Sarawak Green Club, Global Youth Biodiversity Network South East Asia, The European Union, and ASEAN Center for Biodiversity.

Sarawak Eco Warriors president Mark Liao said as the organisation looks toward getting more youths engage in decision-making processes, it must also ensure that the youths have the understanding and capacity to make meaningful contributions.

“Over the last seven years, I have met many youths who are keen on contributing towards sustainability but simply do not have opportunities to contribute beyond the grassroot level,” he said.

Meanwhile, SFC chief executive officer Zolkipli Mohamad Aton said the corporation believes that biodiversity conservation requires all the tools in the box and the participation of all.

“As such, SFC puts emphasis on its employee development to produce passionate employees (youthful and mature) in ensuring continuity in its endeavour for a better future.

“Investment in youth either through internships or engaging with them in events such as this, means working with the youth’s passion in conservation now,” he said.
