KUCHING, Dec 17: The Cabinet reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim must go beyond being a cosmetic exercise or a reward for political allies, and instead focus on strengthening accountability and transparency, improving coordination within the Cabinet, and accelerating policy delivery across key ministries.

In a statement, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap congratulated all ministers and deputy ministers entrusted with new or expanded responsibilities, wishing them well in carrying out their duties in service to the nation.

He stressed, however, that the reshuffle is not an end in itself; its success must be measured by the federal government’s ability to deliver on the reform agenda promised to the rakyat.

“Malaysians continue to face real and pressing challenges that require immediate and decisive action,” he said, highlighting issues such as the rising cost of living, particularly the burden on low- and middle-income households due to food prices, utilities, transportation costs, and subsidy rationalisation.

Yap also pointed to the need to boost economic confidence and job security.

“Small and medium enterprises, traders, and workers require clearer policy direction, reduced bureaucratic hurdles, and consistent support to sustain growth, create quality employment, and attract long-term investment,” he said.

The assemblyman underlined the public’s demand for higher standards of governance and integrity, including firm action against corruption, transparency in public procurement, clarity in policy decisions, and clear accountability within ministries.

He warned that any perception of double standards or selective enforcement could erode public trust.

Improving public service delivery was another key focus, with Yap noting that delays, overlapping responsibilities between agencies, and weak coordination continue to affect sectors such as education, healthcare, housing, and public infrastructure.

Finally, he stressed the importance of effective communication and policy clarity, urging that policies affecting livelihoods be clearly explained, consistently implemented, and refined based on public feedback.

“Only through consistent delivery and meaningful reforms can public confidence in the government be strengthened and sustained,” Yap said, urging the new Cabinet to remain focused on easing the cost of living, strengthening the economy, and upholding integrity and good governance. — DayakDaily
