KUCHING, Sept 15: A by-election will be held for Jepak, says Professor of Political Science, Universiti Putra Malaysia Datuk Prof Dr Jayum Jawan who is a fellow member of Academy of Sciences Malaysia.
This is because this 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (Sarawak DUN) formed following the 12th Sarawak Election, has yet to pass its midterm.
“There will be a by-election as the 12th term of Sarawak DUN has only entered its second year,” Jayum told DayakDaily.
The Jepak seat is vacant following the passing of its assemblyman Datuk Talib Zulpilip at the age of 72 yesterday.
Talib was former Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman).
He served as an assemblyman for Jepak since 1996, a total of 27 years.
Sarawak held its 12th State Election on Dec 18, 2021 after the dissolution of the previous assembly on Nov 3, 2021.
On Jepak constituency, Jayum opined that it was a “safe seat” and had no doubt that Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) will retain it.
“It is a safe seat whomever PBB nominates to stand in Jepak,” said Jayum. — DayakDaily
