KUCHING, May 8: The Bung Bratak Heritage Association (BBHA) will throw a special dinner to honour gold medallist and Sarawakian diving champion Pandelela Rinong at the Bung Bratak Heritage Centre (BBHC) in Bau.
Its chairman Dato Peter Minos said however, the dinner would only take place when the Covid-19 curve has flattened or when the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) gives the green light to do so.
“Like all of us from 35 villages in Bau and Lundu districts who originated frm Bung Bratak, Pandelela too comes from the same place. Pandelela is one of us.
“She has made us very proud and has put both BBHA and BBHC on the pedestal, apart from bringing great honour to Sarawak and Malaysia,” he said in a statement today.
Minos also shared that Pandelela had donated one-acre of her land at the foothills of Bung Bratak, which has now been turned into a carpark.
Following that, the BBHA has named one of the two longhouses at the BBHC after Pandelela to show their appreciation to her.
“We regard Pandelela as our heroine and we will do everything to honour her. We are happy and appreciative of all the things given by the government and private sectors, both past and present, for her ouststanding contributions to both the State and the country,” he added.
On May 5, Pandelela won the women’s 10m platform individual event at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, which marks Malaysia’s first-ever gold medal in the Diving World Cup. — DayakDaily
