KUCHING, May1: The annual Bung Bratak Day which falls on today without fail for the last two decades has been sadly missed by the Bidayuh community, especially those of the Jagoi-Bratak group.

Bung Bratak Heritage Association (BBHA) Datuk Peter Minos said the event has to be cancelled because of movement control order (MCO) imposed to curb the dreaded Covid-19  pandemic.
Minos said in normal circumstances, the one-day event is attended by thousands from far and near, both locals and foreigners.  It is a day of fun and joy where the attendees are treated with historical and cultural presentations as well as an array of exotic Bidayuh food and drink.
“But today, the joy and fun are missing but as chairman of BBHA, I can assure the public that we will do it next year on a big scale,” said Minos who is also Kota Samarahan Municipal Council chairman.
Minos said the association extends its apologise to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and other government agencies for cancelling the pre-booked retreat reservations due to the implementation of MCO.
According to Minos, Bung Bratak which made up of two longhouses, a baruk (roundhouse), a big seminar hall, reception and dining hall set against a natural environment where there is a pristine waterfall, has been the choice destinations of organisations, government agencies and higher education institutions for yearly retreats or one-day outing or trekking. — DayakDaily
