KUCHING, March 17: Bung Bratak Day, a top Bidayuh cultural and historical festival in Bau, is making a grander and bigger comeback on May 1 this year after a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bung Bratak Heritage Association (BBHA) chairman Dato Peter Minos said that the Jagoi-Bratak Bidayuhs of Bau and Lundu districts want a huge celebration that is annually held at the Bidayuh hilltop ancient settlement of Bung Bratak Heritage Centre (BBHC).

“Well-known Bung Bratak personalities such as Sarawak diving queen Pandelela Rinong Pamn and beauty queen and model Dewi Seriesta will be invited to join the celebration.

“As in the past, thousands of local and foreign visitors had attended the celebration. The same will be repeated this year, which is our expectation,” he said in a statement yesterday (March 16).

The annual Bung Bratak Day will showcase the Bidayuh culture, customs, and traditions through colourful costumes, music, songs, dance, arts and crafts, and local food and beverages.

Apart from that, Minos added that there would also be traditional games and a hill running competition, “Bratakthon”, which will be open to all to participate.

“Bung Bratak Day is more than just a Bidayuh festival. It is a colourful, fun and joyous event that also aims to enhance the unity and solidarity among the people and goodwill and understanding,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
