KUCHING, May 21: Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus has urged immediate action be taken over the delay in approving several community leader positions in the Serian division.

Speaking during the motion of appreciation on the TYT’s address at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today, John informed the august House that key appointments, including the Temenggong for the Malay community, the Pemanca for the Iban community, and several Penghulu positions for the Chinese community, have yet to receive approval.

He further highlighted that there has been no progress on the application to create two additional Kapitan posts in the Serian area.

“I request the responsible parties to take further action immediately,” he said.

In addition, John also appealed to the current Sarawak government to consider reintroducing the teaching of the State history in primary schools, much like it was done in the 1960s and 1970s.

He emphasised that it is important for the younger generation to understand and learn from the past, to appreciate the good, and to avoid repeating the mistakes of history. –DayakDaily
