Bukit Mabong accounts for whopping 199 out of 595 new Covid-19 cases across Sarawak

KUCHING, April 25: Bukit Mabong ranked first today as the district with the most cases in Sarawak’s daily Covid-19 tally, recording 199 out of 595 new cases in the whole of Sarawak.

According to reports by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the sudden outbreak stemmed from a construction site cluster in Putai, Ulu Baleh which has already resulted in 243 positive cases as of today.


Other districts reporting new cases were Sibu (84), Bintulu (80), Kuching (39), Meradong (25), Miri (24), Kapit (23), Lundu (20), Kanowit (19), Mukah (19), Serian (16), Samarahan (15), Sarikei (10), Selangau (6), Bau (6), Julau (2), Betong (2), Lubok Antu (2), Subis (1), Sri Aman (1), Kabong (1) and Lawas (1).

With these additions, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak stands at 27,914.

Out of the 595 today, 267 cases were discovered via individual screenings from active clusters where seven cases showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infections, while 240 cases were detected following close contact screenings where 11 of them were symptomatic.

There were 45 cases that were detected via other screenings from health facilities, 42 cases from symptomatic tests in health facilities and one Import-A case returning from overseas.

SDMC also reported three new deaths from Covid-19 today, thus pushing the State’s death toll to 156.

Two fatalities occurred in Bintulu and the third in Sarikei. All three patients had medical histories of comorbidities.

With 417 new recoveries recorded throughout Sarawak, there are still 5,862 patients receiving treatment in various hospitals across Sarawak. — DayakDaily
