SIBU, Jan 14: The Bukit Lima Forest Park and Sentosa Village Flood Mitigation Project here are expected to be completed by mid-March 2025.

This was disclosed by Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng when reviewing the progress of the project at the site yesterday.

According to him, as of Dec 25, 2023, the progress of project works had reached 19.35 per cent.

“This shows that the work has reached 5.64 per cent earlier than the expected development,” he said.

Chieng said that the first phase of this project has received an allocation of RM21.388 million from the Sarawak government where it was handed over to the contractor in mid-May 2023.

“The executing unit of this project is the Sarawak Irrigation and Drainage Department, which includes the construction of a 1,630-metre-long cement ditch, upgrading and expanding a 5,200-metre-long earthen ditch and the construction of a 950-metre-long earthen ditch,” he said.

According to Chieng, the kampung area is low lying land with water reservoir problems where floods easily occur after heavy rain especially due to the poor drainage system.

“When completed, it can improve the efficiency of the drainage system to ensure that local residents no longer face problems with stagnant water and flooding after rain,” he said. — DayakDaily
