SIBU, Feb 3: The police have been urged to thoroughly investigate a case involving a policeman who allegedly cheated a man of RM500,000.

According to Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng, since the case is of public concern, he also wants the police to expedite it as it involves a police officer.

“After the Chinese New Year, I will arrange a courtesy visit to the new Sarawak Police Commissioner, Datuk Mancha Ata and report to him the seriousness of this case and the growing number of fraud cases in Sibu.

“At the same time, I will also raise the issue at the upcoming Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting in May because it has harmed the people of Sarawak,” he said during a press conference today.

The victim, who only wanted to be known as ‘Ling’, lodged a police report on the matter on January 3, 2024, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property. — DayakDaily
