SIBU, Jan 19: A proposal has been put forward to set up a centralised pig farm in the central region.

The rational of a centralised pig farm according to Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng is to avoid the spread of the African Swine Fever (ASF).

“I have talked to pig farmers in the central region on how we can centralise the pig farming industry,” said Chieng at a Media Night cum Chinese New Year gathering on Wednesday.

Chieng said he had also brought up the matter to the Land and Survey Department yesterday afternoon (Jan 18).

“I will have to convey their message to the ministry (agricultural) on the centralisation of pig farming so that we can avoid occurrences of ASF,” he added.

Meanwhile, he hoped the much awaited Bukit Assek Master Development Plan would be ready soon.

Calling himself a rookie, Chieng said he had to work very hard last year such as in the distribution of minor rural project funds, rural transformation project funds and in getting the Sibu-Singapore direct flights, which has become a reality.

Among those present at the gathering was SUPP Bukit Assek chairman Datuk Chieng Buong Toon. — DayakDaily
