SIBU, Nov 27: Many fire hydrants in Bukit Assek are not in good working order.

In line with this, Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng pledged to use his Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation to either repair them or replace them with new fire hydrants.

“If Bomba Sibu (Sibu Fire and Rescue Department) doesn’t have the funds, don’t worry (as) the fund will come from me. I want to build the confidence of our people in our fire hydrants and our Bomba services here.

“A lot of the time, our rakyat always have doubts about the fire hydrants and they are worried in case of fire outbreak. So, I want to fix this fire hydrant system in Bukit Assek,” he said after officiating at a Community Development Health Screening event here today.

Chieng said he is aware that many fire hydrants and pipes in the constituency are not functioning well.

“With frequent fire incidents happening in the area recently, we need to look into our fire hydrant system so as to ensure public safety and their confidence in Bomba,” said Chieng.

He added that the allocation from his RTP would be channeled to Sibu Municipal Council as the implementing agency.

“We will work with Bomba Sibu as we need to check area by area on the fire hydrants and the pipes itself. We need to double-check whether they are in good working condition. If not then we have to do something about them,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
