KUCHING, Oct 2: The government has agreed to extend the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) subsidy to full-time e-hailing drivers with additional eligibility limits before mid-October, and it will also be made available to registered boat owners.
The Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced that e-hailing drivers do not need to apply individually, as the government will coordinate directly with e-hailing operators (EHOs) to process applications in groups.
For water transport, the subsidy will also be available to Malaysian citizens who own registered boats, even without a valid driving license.
“The federal government is working with state agencies, including the Sarawak Rivers Board and Sabah Ports and Harbours Department, to identify registered boat owners,” the MOF stated in a statement posted on its official social media on Wednesday (Oct 1).
The RON95 subsidy remains capped at 300 litres per month per eligible citizen, with disbursements scheduled on the 1st of each month.
As of 6pm yesterday, subsidised RON95 purchases under the BUDI95 system reached around RM84.2 million, covering over 42.3 million litres of petrol. The government has allocated RM27.8 million in subsidies to ease the cost of living.
Since BUDI95 was rolled out on Sept 27, MOF stated that over three million users have benefited, with total subsidised petrol transactions amounting to RM255.6 million, equivalent to 128.4 million litres of petrol, and RM67 million in government subsidies.
“The MADANI government is committed to ensuring this targeted subsidy program runs smoothly, transparently, and benefits the people directly. We will continue monitoring BUDI95 and make improvements where necessary,” the MOF said.
BUDI95 was implemented in phases, starting with 300,000 members of the Malaysian Armed Forces and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), before expanding last Sunday to over five million recipients of the Tunai Rahmah Contribution (STR) in the B40 category.
Overall, 16 million Malaysians aged 16 and above with a MyKad and a valid driving license are eligible to purchase RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre, with a monthly limit of 300 litres.
