KUCHING, Oct 15: The federal government has expanded the Budi Madani RON95 (BUDI95) targeted fuel subsidy programme to include 1,400 registered boat users in Sarawak, while also doubling the fuel usage cap for full-time e-hailing drivers to 600 litres per vehicle.

In a statement on Tuesday (Oct 14), the Ministry of Finance (MoF) said the move is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that the BUDI95 programme continues to provide comprehensive and equitable benefits to all eligible groups across the nation.

The ministry said the extension in Sarawak follows the recent activation of BUDI95 eligibility for boat users in Sabah and those registered under the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM).

“Based on data from the Sarawak Rivers Board and relevant State government agencies, BUDI95 eligibility has been activated for more than 1,400 registered private boat users in the state,” MoF said.

For the transport sector, the ministry said data cross-checked with the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) shows that over 53,900 full-time e-hailing drivers will now benefit from the increased fuel quota of 600 litres per vehicle, up from 300 litres previously.

In addition, more than 11,400 driver’s licence holders are now eligible to receive BUDI95 assistance. This group comprises 11,200 newly licensed drivers and 260 drivers who recently renewed their licences, pushing the total number of Malaysians benefiting from the scheme to over 16 million people.

“The Madani government remains committed to ensuring that this targeted subsidy programme is implemented smoothly, transparently, and continues to deliver direct benefits to the people,” MoF said.

The ministry added that it will continue to monitor the implementation of BUDI95 and make necessary improvements from time to time in collaboration with relevant agencies.
