Budget 2027: Disaster home repair aid increased to RM10k

KUCHING, Oct 9: The government has agreed to double the maximum home repair assistance rate for disaster victims from RM5,000 to RM10,000.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said when tabling Budget 2027, themed “Reaching for the Sky, Rooted in the Ground”, in the Dewan Rakyat today that the ministry has allocated RM260 million to the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) for the year 2027.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said a total of 17 amphibious craft would be acquired to expedite rescue operations by the Civil Defence Force.

“To date, the government has successfully completed six projects for flood mitigation plans (RTB) worth RM336 million. Currently, 82 RTB projects are being implemented according to schedule,” he added when tabling Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Looking ahead to 2027, new upcoming key projects will include the Kuching City RTB, the Sungai Golok Integrated River Basin Development Project (PLSB) Phase 2 in Kelantan, and the Sungai Kemaman PLSB in Terengganu.

In tandem with these large-scale mitigation works, nearly RM320 million has been allocated to repair and upgrade slopes, drains, and ditches across local authority areas nationwide to mitigate flash flood risks.

“The GLC For Rakyat and Nation (GDRN) initiative, led by GLIC (government-linked investment companies) and GLC (government-linked companies) foundations, continues to step up its efforts to assist disaster victims through a RM20 million matching grant,” he said. – Bernama
