KUCHING, Oct 11: A total of 150 welfare recipients, including elderly people, single mothers and children, received cash contributions during Sarawak Governor (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s 80th birthday celebration today, with women accounting for 124 of the beneficiaries.
The recipients, comprising 26 men and 124 women, are beneficiaries of monthly assistance from the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS).
Astana Negeri Sarawak sponsored the cash contributions, while Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) and Bintulu Port Holdings provided rice and hampers for the recipients.
The contributions were presented during a tea reception held in conjunction with the 80th birthday celebration of the TYT, who attended the event with his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
The couple arrived with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his daughter, Dayang Norjihan.
Tun Wan Junaidi and Fauziah also took part in a traditional pulut kuning cake-cutting ceremony during the reception. —DayakDaily
