KUCHING, Jan 6: Sabah-based consumer packaged goods distributor Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad (KTC) has clarified that a photo which went viral on social media depicting a building with a Sarawakian address in Asajaya bearing the logo and trademark of the Gardenia bread manufacturer is false.

KTC in a press statement today said that no such building bearing the Gardenia Bakeries (East Malaysia) Sdn Bhd logo, which is owned by KTC, is being set up in Sarawak currently.

However, the company disclosed that there are plans to set up its first Gardenia production factory in Sarawak in the foreseeable future.

KTC’s executive director Datuk Dexter Lau said the company is in discussion with Assistant Minister of Public Health, Local Government and Housing Michael Tiang about the plan, though nothing concrete has materialised yet.

“The setting up of a Gardenia factory in Sarawak is in line with the State government’s initiative to provide job opportunities to Sarawakians and at the same time making Gardenia bread loafs readily available in Sarawak.

“With a strong State government offering a positive political landscape, both the Sarawak government and KTC are confident that Gardenia’s factory establishment in Sarawak will be realised in the very near future,” said Lau. — DayakDaily
