Borneo Games: Sarawak’s Danial Hakim misses gold by a second, clinches silver in Men’s 1,500m

KUCHING, Sept 25: Sarawak’s promising runner Danial Hakim Mohammed Omar came within a heartbeat of victory, clinching the silver medal in the men’s 1,500m at the Borneo Games Kuching (BGK) 2025 at Stadium Negeri today.

According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Danial clocked 04:12, finishing just a second behind East Kalimantan’s Tanjung Akhbar, who struck gold with 04:11.

Brunei’s Mohammiod Arif Zulkifli secured the bronze in 04:14.

Sarawak also celebrated success in the women’s 1,500m as Clezendra powered through to secure bronze with a 05:09 finish.

The event was won by East Kalimantan’s Nefriana Ariance Daik in 04:53, while Sabah’s Hizillawanty Jamain bagged silver in 04:56.

The spirited performances by Danial and Clezendra provided a timely morale boost for Sarawak’s contingent, proving that the State’s rising athletes are ready to take on formidable rivals from neighbouring regions.

Their efforts also add to Sarawak’s medal tally, fuelling confidence as the team heads into the athletics finale this weekend. — DayakDaily
