Borneo Games: Sarawak shuttlers sweep East Kalimantan, cruise into next round in badminton

KUCHING, Sept 25: Sarawak’s badminton squad proved unstoppable at the Borneo Games Kuching (BGK) 2025 today, sweeping East Kalimantan in every preliminary match to storm into the next round.

According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, the charge began with Goh Shun Huat, who cruised past David Antolient 21-8, 21-9 in the men’s singles.

His teammate Shawn Hiu then extended the lead with another straight-sets win, defeating Ramanda Z. Ramadhani 21-13, 21-16.

In the men’s doubles, Hon Sin Hong and Jeremy Juan Zhen Liang fought through a gruelling three-set battle before edging Antolient and Ramadhani 21-16, 16-21, 21-17, sealing a clean sweep in the men’s category.

Sarawak’s women’s shuttlers carried the momentum forward. Janice Tchin Yao Xuan opened with a confident 21-17, 21-18 victory over Nella Puspita Dewi, before Wafa Shahmina Rahman staged a brilliant comeback to topple Karina Ria Hardianti 15-21, 21-7, 21-10.

Capping off the flawless performance, doubles pair Felicia and Flora overpowered Nella Puspita and Karina Ria 21-13, 21-7 to complete Sarawak’s dominance.
