KUCHING, Nov 4: The Borneo Cultures Museum (BCM) has claimed the top spot in the number of votes on the Museum World Ranking (MWR) website, surpassing the well-known Louvre in Paris, France, by over 2,000 votes.
As of 6.30pm today, the BCM has garnered 6,771 votes while the Louvre secured 4,034 votes.
Rounding up the top ten is the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico, followed by the National Palace Museum (Taipei), the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao (Spain), Getty Center (US), Art Institute of Chicago (US), Houston Museum of Natural Science (US), Le Gallerie degli Uffizi (Italy), and the Royal Ontario Museum (Canada).
In terms of ranking, the BCM sits at 305th out of 418.
The BCM is one of three museums in Malaysia to have made the list, with the other two being the National Museum and the National Textile Museum, based in Kuala Lumpur.
The National Museum is ranked 327 and has garnered 462 votes, while the National Textile Museum sits at 347 with 494 votes.
In a Facebook post, the BCM described the museum’s inclusion in the ranking as a global recognition of what it offers and invited the public to keep voting for the BCM through the MWR’s website. — DayakDaily
