Bomba ready to face floods

SIBU, Dec 13: Firefighters of Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sibu have routinely underwent training and drills in preparation to effectively respond to flood situations in the region.

Acting Sibu Bomba chief Wan Kamaruddin Wan Ahmad said today that the drill also involved handling of land and water assets as well as to enhance coordination and communication between relevant agencies to ensure rescue and evacuation works can be carried out smoothly.

“The training is conducted at every Bomba station, and we are monitoring the flood situation closely especially flood prone areas.

“We are always prepared to support and carry out rescue work in the event of a flood,” he assured.

On leave frozen for officers during this monsoon season, Wan Kamaruddin said he has yet to receive instruction on it.

“Officers including firefighters are now being put on leave rotation system to give them a chance to be with their family. Those eligible for leave will be allowed to go on vacation.

“But we will still ensure that the number of officers in each station is sufficient for operational purposes,” he added.

Wan Kamaruddin called on members of the public to give their full cooperation, to always be on alert of the weather situation and to follow instructions given by authorities to avoid any untoward incidents during the flood.

“The public should contact us immediately in case of emergency so that immediate assistance can be provided. Parents should also constantly monitor their children by not allowing them to play in the monsoon drains in time of flood,” he advised.— DayakDaily
