SIBU, Feb 8: The bloated body of an unidentified man with tattoos of a scorpion and a spider was found in Sungai Sebedil, Batang Igan near here on Friday afternoon.

The body was discovered by a member of the public who saw it floating in the river near Igan Bridge.

Sibu District Police Chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said today that they received a call from the public at about 11.50am on Friday regarding the body.

“Three officers from the Marine Department and a Sergeant from Sungai Merah police station were deployed to the scene and brought the body to Arang Jetty near Sibu Express Wharf,” he said.

He said an initial inspection of the body with blue jeans and a collared t-shirt, indicated that he could be a foreigner although no personal documentation was found.

“The bloated body was found to have tattoo of a scorpion wound around the left arm and a spider on the stomach,” he said.

He said police had not received any reports of missing family members in the area and efforts to trace them are being carried out.

“The body has been sent to the Sibu Hospital mortuary pending a body view and autopsy,” he added.

The case has been temporary classified as sudden death (SDR) until a post-mortem report is obtained, he added.—DayakDaily
