Body of teen boy feared drowned at Sungai Libiki found

KUCHING, April 18: The body of a teenage boy feared to have drowned at Sungai Libiki in Bau this afternoon has been found.

The victim, identified as 13-year-old Randle Rich anak Dunstan, was reported missing at around 11.45am while swimming in the river with two friends.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received a distress call at 1.44pm, and a team from the Bau Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene, arriving at 1.55pm.

Upon arrival, the rescue team, led by operations commander PBK II Jelly anak Lias, conducted an immediate assessment of the area where the victim was last seen.

At 2.00pm, the State Operations Centre (PGO) instructed the Water Rescue Unit (PPDA) to assist in the search. Rescue personnel, equipped with full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), carried out a surface search within a 20-metre radius from the last known location.

“At 4.20pm, villagers discovered the victim’s body submerged approximately 10 metres from where he was last seen.

“As of 5.00pm, the victim was confirmed dead by the Ministry of Health (KKM) and handed over to the police,” the report stated. — DayakDaily
