KUCHING, April 18: A teenage boy is feared to have drowned while swimming at Sungai Libiki in Bau here this afternoon.
The victim, identified as 13-year-old Randle Rich anak Dunstan, was last seen at the river before he reportedly went missing.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), in a statement, said that a distress call regarding the incident was received at 1.44pm, prompting a team from the Bau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Bau) to be deployed to the location.
Upon arrival, the operation commander Jelly Lias carried out an initial assessment and gathered information from witnesses at the scene.
At 2pm, the Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (PGO) instructed the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) to be dispatched to assist with the search and rescue (SAR) efforts.
By 2.10pm, firefighters in full personal protective equipment (PPE) began surface water search operations, focusing on a 20-metre radius from the last known location of the victim.
As of the time of reporting, the victim has yet to be found and search efforts are ongoing. — DayakDaily
