Body of shipping mechanic feared drown in slip, fall incident found

SIBU, April 2: The worst fear of a family came true when the body of a shipping mechanic who fell into the river on Thursday (March 31) was found today.

The victim, Lim Wee Sin, 49, was feared drowned after he fell into the river while trying to jump from a vessel to a pontoon at Jalan Lanang here.


Sibu Central Fire and Rescue Station chief, Senior Assistant Fire Supt Suna Kaha said the body was found at about 9.20am today some three metres away from the said pontoon.

“The family of the deceased had identified the body as they were at the pontoon,” he said.

The body was subsequently handed over to the police for further action.

In the 4.16pm incident, a colleague of Lim saw him trying to get onto the pontoon from a vessel. However, he mis-stepped and fell into the river.

Firemen rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 4.23pm to launch a search and rescue operation for the man.— DayakDaily
