Body of Myanmar national recovered in Batang Igan

KUCHING, Feb 27: The body of a Myanmar national was successfully recovered ending a two-day search and rescue (SAR) operation in Batang Igan, today.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation centre in a statement today said the SAR team was informed by the members of the public about the discovery at about 10.50 am.

“Personnel from the Bomba control post reported that the body was found about 30 kilometres away from where the victim was last seen to have fallen into the Batang Igan in Rantau Panjang, Sibu,” it said.

According to the statement, the finding was also confirmed by the victim’s employer that the remains were of the deceased who was reported to have fallen from a boat that was docked in Jalan Tanjung Maling wharf in Sibu, on Feb 25.

“The body was later handed over to the police for further action and the operation ended at 12.30 pm,” the statement added.

Other agencies that were involved in the operation are Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Marine Police Force, Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) and Sarawak River Board (SRB) personnel. — DayakDaily
