Body of missing teenager recovered from man-made pond

KUCHING, June 10: The body of a 14-year-old boy who went missing while swimming with friends in a man-made pond in a remote plantation was recovered at 3.04pm today.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue (Bomba) Department Operation Centre, the teenager who is from Rumah Suyung was reported as going missing at 4.40pm yesterday during an outing at Geran Stumbin, Simanggang.

Since then, frantic search efforts had been carried out around the lake as well as in the waters.

The search started yesterday but was halted when night fell.

Searchers utilised “cycle” search methods. The victim’s body was found during the sixth dive today.

Apart from Bomba, other agencies who were present on site were the police, Civil Defence Unit, the Resident’s Office, Department of Irrigation and Drainage and 25 local villagers. — DayakDaily
