Body of missing man recovered from Sematan river

KUCHING, Oct 21: The search for a missing man, 26, came to a tragic end when his body was recovered from a river near Kampung Terusan Jaya, Sematan, yesterday (Oct 20).

According to a report by Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the man going missing was first reported at 3.50pm yesterday, triggering a search and rescue (SAR) operation.

According to witnesses, the victim was last seen crossing the river at approximately 2.10pm, carrying snails he had collected.

He was wearing an orange shirt and short jeans when he was reportedly swept away by the strong tidal current.

At approximately 1.49am today, his body was found about one kilometer from the location where he was last seen.

At 2.50am, the Bomba team arrived at the scene, and the body was retrieved and brought to shore using a Bomba boat.

The remains were handed over to the police at 3am for further investigation, and the operation was concluded at 3.25am. — DayakDaily
