KANOWIT, Oct 17: The body of a missing 92-year-old man, feared to have drowned after falling from a boat into Sungai Kanowit, has been recovered.
According to a report from Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak, the search and rescue (SAR) team located the victim’s body about 300 metres from the Bomba control post near Rh Jelani at 8.50am today.
The deceased, identified as Tinggi Melintang, was reported to have fallen into the river at 6pm on Sunday (Oct 15), while on a boat returning from his farm on the opposite bank.
Today, on the third day of the SAR operation, five Bomba personnel covered a 2-kilometre radius area from the control post, with the assistance of villagers using five longboats along the river.
The body of the deceased was subsequently recovered and transported to the jetty, where the remains were handed over to the police for identification. — DayakDaily
