MARUDI, Dec 20: The body of a 31-year-old man feared drowned after he was reported missing from a barge at Sg Tinjar yesterday, was found some 10km from the location he was last seen.

According to the state Fire and Rescue Department operation centre, the remains of Zulkifli Narudin was found at 10.17am by local fishermen.

“The second day search and rescue (SAR) operations in search of the victim started at 6.24am today, covering about 8km radius downstream of the location (where the victim was reported missing).

“The body has been handed over to the police and brought to Miri Hospital for further action,” the department said in a statement.

The deceased was reported missing by his father yesterday (Dec 19) after an effort to locate the victim was fruitless.

A SAR operation was immediately initiated and continued this morning by Marudi firefighters via “surface searching” along the river assisted by the local villagers, the police and the Civil Defence Force (APM). — DayakDaily
