Body of man believed to have fallen off Igan Bridge found

SIBU, Feb 22: The body of a man who is feared to have drowned after falling off the Igan Bridge has been found today.

According to a spokesman from Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the body of the victim, Kong Sien Chei, was found at 11.44am about 2km from the bridge.

“Firefighters involved in the search and rescue operation found the body through water surface searching a 10km stretch of Sungai Batang Igan,” he said.


The body has been referred to the police for further action.

In the incident on Monday, two residents of a longhouse, Rumah Frederick Emperan Tekakong, which is located near the bridge were resting on the riverbank when they saw a man fall off the bridge.

Bomba received a distress call at 5.15pm from the duo, where they also discovered that the victim had left behind his motorcycle on the bridge.

The search and rescue operation was immediately launched that evening and continued for two days until the body was found today. — DayakDaily
