Body of man believed to have drowned while on fishing trip at Sungai Lebaan found

The man was last seen fishing at Sungai Lebaan before he was believed to have fallen into the river.

BINTANGOR: The body of a man who was reported missing and feared drowned during a fishing outing at Sungai Lebaan on Sunday night, has been found floating in Sungai Tulai, near here this morning.

Meradong District police chief DSP Anoi Sekam said, they received a call at 7.45am about the discovery of the floating body and rushed to the scene.

“The victim has been identified as Ing Chung Kiew, 60, who is believed to have drowned in between Batang Lebaan and Sungai Rajang, late Nov 8,” he said.


Meanwhile, a team from the Bintangor Fire and Rescue Station (Bomba) complete with Personal Protective Clothing (PPE) helped lift the victim’s body from the river before handing it over to the police.

“The body has been sent to Sarikei Hospital for further action,” DSP Sekam added.

At 10pm last Sunday, the victim went fishing with a friend and had failed to return home after returning to the fishing spot to pick up items left behind on the other side of the river in a boat alone. — DayakDaily
