Body of farmer who dies after car falls into ditch found a day after accident

BINTULU, May 14: The body of a 67-year-old farmer killed after the Perodua Kancil he was travelling in plunged into a ditch along Jalan Rumah Mekai Sungai Binyo, Pandan in Sebauh was only discovered yesterday (May 13), a day after the car accident.

According to a police report, the accident occurred at about 4pm on May 12 when the deceased identified as Unyat Luwis was on his way to his farm near to his Rumah Mekai longhouse.

While approaching the farm, he was believed to have suddenly lost control of the car and fell into a ditch about 20 metres from the road.


Investigation officer  Inspector Lydia Allan disclosed that the victim was only found by villagers at the accident site on May 13 at about 3pm following efforts to search for the victim who had failed to return home.

Police were alerted and responded at about 4.43pm.

A Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) team was also dispatched to the scene to assist in retrieving the body of the victim and his damaged vehicle.

Initial investigation showed that it was a single-vehicle-crash and the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
