Body of 58yo man feared taken by crocodile found 1km from Kampung Pandam riverbank

LIMBANG, July 9: The body of a 58-year-old man who was feared to have been attacked and dragged into the river by a crocodile while fishing at Kampung Pandam has been recovered.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Limbang, the victim’s body was found in good condition about one kilometre from the search operation post at 2.28pm today.

The remains of Karim Osman have been handed over to the police for further action.

The second day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation involved multiple agencies, including Bomba, the police, Marine Police, Sarawak Coast Guard, Sarawak Rivers Board, Civil Defence Force (APM), Kampung Seberang Kedai Volunteer Fire Brigade, and local villagers.

Search teams focused on the downstream areas of the river after a crocodile was briefly spotted surfacing yesterday (July 8), while several other teams also conducted searches upstream.

The victim was believed to have been attacked by a crocodile while fishing along the riverbank. The incident was first reported at 3.13pm yesterday.

Eyewitnesses at the scene said only the victim’s belongings and fishing equipment were found by the riverbank. The incident was subsequently reported to the Limbang District Police Headquarters (IPD Limbang). — DayakDaily
