MUKAH, March 2: The body of a three-year-old boy who was reported missing in Sungai Ilas, Batang Igan Matu on Tuesday evening has been found by villagers at 6.15pm on Wednesday.
Matu Daro District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Neil Beginda said, the body of the victim, Yohanes Ivander Darus, was found about 100m from the location where he was believed to have fallen into the river.
He said prior to the incident, the victim was left alone in the living room of their home at Rumah Raya Menaul when his mother went out to buy vegetables at a nearby store.
“The victim was discovered missing by his mother at about 4.30pm after she found that he was not in the house,” he said today.
It is understood that the victim is feared to have fallen into the river due to the kitchen door of the victim’s residence being open, where the house is located on the banks of the Batang Igan river.
Neil said the victim’s body had been handed over to the police and taken to Daro Hospital for further action.
He said the search and rescue operation (SAR) involved six policemen, five members of the Matu Civil Defense Force (APM) and a total of 80 villagers.
