Body of 32yo crocodile attack victim found 300 metres from riverbank near Matang

KUCHING, June 28: The body of a 32-year-old man believed to have been attacked by a crocodile while fishing near a river along Jalan Matang-Kampung Paroh has been recovered.

The victim, identified as Jacob Tuan, was found at around 12.30pm today by the search and rescue (SAR) team, approximately 300 metres from the location where he was last seen.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Petra Jaya, which led the operation, transported the body to land and subsequently handed it over to the police for further investigation.

In a statement today, Padawan District Police Chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi confirmed that the victim had sustained multiple injuries believed to have been caused by the crocodile attack and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body was sent to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further action. The case is being classified as a Sudden Death Report (SDR).

Today’s SAR operation resumed at 8am, focusing on surface searches within a 300-metre radius from the point he was reported missing.

The incident was reported by a family member at about 10.30pm on Friday (June 27), after Jacob, who was fishing along the riverbank roughly 200 metres from the main road, was believed to have been attacked at around 10pm. — DayakDaily
