Boat sinks in Sri Aman, man feared drowned while son-in-law safe

KUCHING, Sept 14: A man is feared to have drowned while his son-in-law managed to swim to safety after their boat sank near the Bayai Water Treatment Plant in Sri Aman this morning.

According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 10.10am, and firefighters from the Sri Aman station were deployed.

The missing victim was identified as Banggau Ngilah; his son-in-law is Roys Misen.

“Both victims were on their way back from the oil palm plantation, carrying a load of palm oil, before their boat struck a log and sank.

“One victim (Roys) managed to swim to safety, but strong river currents swept away the other (Banggau),” said the report.

A search and rescue (SAR) operation was mounted, and rescuers conducted a surface search to locate the victim. — DayakDaily
