Bleeding in Andrew’s brain, internal organs — Sibu police chief

SIBU, Feb 12: Datuk Andrew Wong Kee Yew, the former Sibu Municipal Council deputy chairman who died on Sunday, had bleeding on the left side of his brain, according to an initial post-mortem report.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit revealed today that the pathologist who conducted the post-mortem at Sibu Hospital yesterday also said there was bleeding in the oesophagus and stomach.

However, he added that the cause of death had yet to be ascertained as police were still waiting for a detailed report from the Sibu Hospital laboratory.

The late Andrew, 42, who was the only son of Second Finance Minister Dato Seri Wong Soon Koh, died suddenly on Sunday at his family home in Jalan Ipoh here.

He was found unconscious on the floor of his bedroom at 9.30pm by his mother, Datin Seri Pauline Leong Poh Lin.
Andrew was pronounced dead at 11pm by medical doctors who were called to the residence.

State Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian were among the leaders to have expressed shock and sadness over Andrew’s demise.

“I was shocked to hear the news of (the passing away of) Datuk Andrew who was well, active and had done so much (for the community),” he said.

“It is very sad. Someone so young and a potential leader. My deepest condolences to Dato Seri Wong and Datin Seri Leong,” said Dr Sim, who was met at Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau’s residence during a Chinese New Year visit today.
He said he would pay his last respects either today or tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the wake for Andrew will take place at the Nirvana Memorial Park at Oya Road tomorrow (Feb 13) from 9am to 5pm.

His body will be cremated at 8am on Thursday (Feb 14). — DayakDaily
