KUCHING, Dec 5: A fire that broke out this afternoon has severely damaged three shophouses along Jalan Padungan.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Padungan Station, with assistance from Tabuan Jaya Station, responded to the emergency at 4.55pm and immediately deployed a team of firefighters to the scene.
A grocery store suffered extensive damage, with 80 per cent of its three-story structure affected.
Similarly, a motorcycle shop next door sustained heavy damage to its second and third floors.
Meanwhile, a convenience store incurred 40 per cent damage, primarily on its first and third floors.
Firefighters managed to contain the blaze by nearly 6pm, preventing it from spreading to adjacent shops.
Operations are still ongoing to ensure no remaining sources of ignition and to secure the site’s safety. — DayakDaily
